137th Kentucky Derby (2011)- Animal Kingdom Wins, BIG Upset!
The 137 Annual Kentucky Derby, where a longshot, Animal Kingdom, ridden by John Velasquez, wins. I was personally cheering for Pants On Fire, ridden by Rosie, because I wanted a girl to win it for a change. Also, we broke tradition, because usually Calvin Borel (Bor-rail, as some people call him) wins the Derby.

@sjstern dang. sorry if i offended you in some way. some ppl’s opinion may think…geez..idk….tradition….if somebody wins 75% of the kentucky derby’s over the past 4 years..and also wins a bunch of OTHER races in other states and other race tracks, then he gets his name out and people arent suprised that he wins.

Animal Kingdom covered the last 1/2 mile of the Derby in :47-2/5. Only Secretariat has finished faster in the last 30 years.

This is JMO, but if it turn’s out that Animal Kingdom goes on to win the 2011 Triple Crown? It’s not because he’s a better horse than say Smarty Jones was in 2004, or Big Brown was in 2008. It will be because 2011 has produced the weakest crop of 3yr.old colt’s that I can remember in ages!! Just the facts.
