1989 Kentucky Derby - Easy Goer -vs- Sunday Silence + Post Race

July 26th, 2010 | admin | How To Win At Sports Betting

Sunday Silence scored a two-and-a-half-length upset victory over Easy Goer in the 115th Kentucky Derby today at Churchill Downs, but the only thing that seemed right about the race was that the two best colts beat the others. This had shaped up as an extraordinarily good Derby, a virtual match race between two special colts, and those with a piece of Sunday Silence or a bet on him were delighted by the outcome. But many in the crowd of 122653 seemed dazed and unsatisfied with the way the showdown unfolded. Both colts had traffic problems. Sunday Silence weaved strangely through the stretch as he shied from his rider’s whip. Easy Goer’s jockey said his colt had failed to handle the track or fire his best shot. The time of the race was the slowest in 31 years, and fewer than 10 lengths separated the first dozen finishers, who had figured to finish much farther apart. Sunday Silence, who paid .20 for to win as the second favorite and ran the mile and a quarter under Pat Valenzuela in 2:05 on a track labeled ”muddy,” took the lead turning for home and ran a crooked course to the wire while well clear of the field. Easy Goer passed four rivals in the final furlong to be second, a head in front of Awe Inspiring, with whom he was coupled as the Shug McGaughey-trained entry that was favored at 4-to-5. Dansil, who forced Easy Goer to alter course through the stretch, was fourth, a nose ahead of Hawkster. Northern Wolf, Irish Actor, Houston, Triple Buck, Shy Tom, Wind

Easy Goer was always no doubt a top ten racehorse in talent, ability, speed, stamina, power, with many top ten racehorse performances at 6.5F, 7F, 8F, 9F, 10F, 12F, but the two atrocious rides that got him beat a nose and neck, put him down in the thirties where ss always belonged.

  2. sl7293 Says:

SS lost the Derby, Preakness and BC by 2 1/2 lengths, a nose, and a neck entirely because of Pat Day’s miserable rides. There were no other factors in the outcome except that SS’s jockeys, Valenzuela and McCarron ran totally perfect races each time. If they had made even the slightest mistake and if Pat Day had done anything right, EG would have won all 3 races.

  3. sl7293 Says:

Claims that EG is a lousy mud horse are false. He lost the Derby because of Pat Day’s miserable ride and stil came within 2.5 lengths of winning in spite of the mud. If EG had faced Secretariat and Prove Out, with a decent jockey in the 1 1/2 mile 1973 Woodward, which PO won in 2:25.8 vs Sec’s 2:26.6, EG would have crushed them both and possibly set a new WR, the heavy slop and standing water notwithstanding.

  4. DELMARCLUB1 Says:

You better start learning something. LOL! EG lost by a nose and neck in the Preakness and Classic! LOL. I think you should start learning, not SS. LOL

  5. DELMARCLUB1 Says:

This cat doesn’t even know what races SS lost and EG lost and the margins. I think you better go back to school. LOL

  6. EASYGOERFLIES Says:

LOL!! So true del mar. LOL

  7. EASYGOERFLIES Says:

I think he better go back to talking about Kostroma, Red Giant, Hawkster, Expensive Decision, Mr Light, Officialpermission etc

  8. EASYGOERFLIES Says:

And clearly stated that EG handled mud/slop in his races not at CD, he didn’t handle the quirky peanut buttery CD mud. Note the difference, but you are too unintelligent to see it.

  9. flyrobertfly45 Says:

Easy Goer runs the worst race of his life, doesn’t handle the track, never even gets out of second gear, and all ss can do is win by two in 2:05!! Where was ss in the test of a champion, he needed bifocals and wings to even see Easy Goer…Ooooops, Whittingham said it was the track in great old NY.

  10. flyrobertfly45 Says:

SS gets KILLED by Easy Goer, loses a G2 to Prized, loses three times at Hollywood Park, loses to Criminal Type giving less weight away than EG, and his won jockey still states ARazi was better than SS.

  11. ruffchamp1 Says:

Easy Goer is in with some Mighty Immortal Co. on that Behind on the Scoreboard List with the Likes of Citation, Kelso, Whirlaway, RTable,Skip Away, Forego,JHnery,Unbridled,Native Diver,Plesnt Colony,Kotashaan, etc etc with all Excuses though

  12. EASYGOER4LIFE Says:

Indeed, Easy Goer,Native Dancer,Damascus, Holy Bull, Curlin, Skip Away,Nashua,Bold Ruler,Point Given, Afleet Alex, Risen Star, all lost the Derby.

  13. EASYGOER4LIFE Says:

But, With all those top ten horse performances in his career, Easy Goer will always be mentioned with some of the greats of all time, despite the two awful rides that got him beat a nostril and neck. SS was never nor will ever be mentioned with the Dr Fager’s, Secretariat, Kelso,Buckpasser,Nashua,Damascus etc

  14. DELMARCLUB1 Says:

Easy Goer was no doubt at all a top ten racehorse in talent and ability, with top ten horse performances at 6.5f, 7f,8f,9f,10f,12f, but the two atrocious rides that got him beat a nose and neck, put him down where ss always belonged in the thirties.

  15. sl7293 Says:

@sl7293 OK. Correction SS won the Derby, Preakness, and BC by 2.5 lengths by 2.5 lengths, a nose, and a neck because of Pat Day’s miserable rides on EG. Sorry for the typo.

  16. DELMARCLUB1 Says:

LOL! Try again. Are you that stupid? SS did not win the BC by 2.5 lengths. He won the Preakness by a nose and BC by a neck. You’ve been on here for months making mistakes, stating on another video EG lost the Belmont. Check your brain.

  17. EASYGOERFLIES Says:

This character doesn’t even know the margins of each race. LOL! No wonder he can’t see a dispicably bad rides in two races. No wonder. LOL, so true

  18. EASYGOERFLIES Says:

You really should just go back to talking about Red Giant, Kostroma, Hawkster, Mr. Light, Expensive Decision, Offficialpermission, and all the rest. At least you can recite all these horses records on grass. LOL

  19. DELMARCLUB1 Says:

LOL! Love it EGFlies. So true. He still can’t get it correct. But by golly, Prove Out losing 30 times in 39 starts is easy to remember. Or Kostroma, Red Giant, Fortitude, Hawkster, Who’s to Pay, Expensive Decision

  20. EASYGOER4LIFE Says:

The two awful rides that got EG beat a nostril and neck are so obvious that not only east coast turf writers like Nack,Crist,Watchmaker,Edwin Pope saw it, in addition to west coasters like Christine as well.

  21. EASYGOERFLIES Says:

Indeed, even west coast expert and UNBIASED Californian Bill Christine of the LA Times stated how dispicably bad Day’s riding was in the Preakness and Classic. It sure was not just all the east coast biased experts. Or Pat Day himself calling his riding dispicably bad.

  22. EASYGOER4LIFE Says:

Any and everybody can see how awful his riding was to get EG beat a nostril and neck. So much so, that Day himself calls his riding “total pilot error”.

  23. EASYGOER4LIFE Says:

But, Easy Goer will always be mentioned with some of the greats of all time, in spite of the two awful rides that got him beat a nostril and neck. With 8 or 9 races on track records, many top ten horse performances. SS was never nor will ever be mentioned with Dr Fager’s, Secretariat, Kelso,Buckpasser,Nashua,Damascus, etc

  24. DELMARCLUB1 Says:

Easy Goer was always no doubt a top ten racehorse in talent and ability, with top ten racehorse performances at 6.5f, 7f, 8f, 9f, 10f, 12f, but the two atrocious rides that got EG beat a nose and neck, put him down where ss always belonged in the thirties.

  25. EASYGOERFLIES Says:

Easy Goer’s record three year old mile of all time in 1:32.2, and his Belmont Stakes devastating massacre, complete domination, are the two greatest performances since Bid in 1980.
