I love this horse inspite of the loss in the belmont due to broken leg he fights his way to be one of the great…RIP Chris Antley…

  2. marc19ar Says:

from claim to fame… what a wonderful horse wish I could have this one…thanks for loading this video hope you could add his preakness win and his courageous fight against leon drop kid in the belmont… Godbless

  3. LightsOn Says:

Menifee was so close. I really wanted to see him win, just one more length of rail and it would have been his.

  4. sachahuista Says:

Whatever happened to Dave Johnson during the back-stretch??

  5. zedbout Says:

It sounded like he sneezed or coughed off mike. He only called one more derby for ABC before being replaced by Durkin, who is far superior IMO. But Dave is still doing the radio call for the derby I believe.

    Brilliant coverage here by ABC.

On the recent movies of Seabiscuit,Flicka and the up and coming of Ruffian I thought a movie about the life of Chris Antley woould have a great movie..It would cover his highs of winning the Derby once and his battle with drugs and then winning the Derby after 8 years or so when everyone count him out and then the last year of his life that ended so tragic…

  8. marc19ar Says:

    amazing…

  9. theVilleKY Says:

Greatest words in sports: “And there off in the Kentucky Derby…” “…And down the stretch they come…”

I remember this derby very well becasue I had Menifee but I still recall the finish “and it’s Charismatic holding on to win it by a head”

    Can you feel it?

  11. D56GoBucks Says:

My old Kentucky Home before the race is one of my all time favorite traditions

  12. datstuffishot Says:

That was a horrible call… umm ummm ummm silent and K one King

  13. nvrlose37 Says:

this guy is no match for tom durkin, he just doesnt have the same enthusiasm

  14. OrrCountry Says:

No knock on Durkin, he’s terrific, but very few track announcers made races as legitimately exciting as Dave Johnson. How appropriate then that Johnson, who was present for most of Secretariat’s big races, would be able to call Big Red’s son’s win at what was his last televised Derby call.

  15. katie66bug Says:

My favorite Kentucky Derby finish of all time…..just a “feel good” story all the way around! :)

I love that music when the odds are shown it gives me goosebumps

  17. ilovezenyatta Says:

great interview from Lesley Visser when she interviewed Bob Baffert before the race.

I BET Charismatic to win & place at 31 to 1 and made a small fortune.
D’ WAYNE has his ways; used to be: IF he wore a suit bet his horse if a blue blazer & khaki pants= no bet . SUITS are for pictures in the WINNERS CIRCLE
    I.E. 1999 Preakness & 2000 Belmont ( Commendable 20- 1 ) I had them ALL ….. CHEERS

the 2nd place horse Menifee was the best horse in this race………if the Derby was 50 more feet he would have won easily……….

  21. orlandorays Says:

@theVilleKY I remember 1999 very vividly, it was my favorite Triple Crown season. Charismatic and Menifee was SO close to becoming Affirmed and Alydar.
