2011 Breeders Cup Dirt Mile – Caleb’s Posse
Caleb’s Posse motored down the center of the track to rally for a 3 1/2-length victory in the Grade 1, million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Churchill Downs on Saturday. The fast pace set by front-runners The Factor and Shackleford set it up for the closing Caleb’s Posse to come from behind, just as he did in winning the Grade 1 King’s Bishop over Uncle Mo in August. Rajiv Maragh was on board for both rides for trainer Donnie Von Hemel. The BC Dirt Mile is Caleb Posse’s fourth graded-stakes win of the year. www.drf.com

Don´t think shack forze… look at the gallop out, he still has fuel left. He didn´t see caleb´s posse coming from the far outside…

Although Caleb’s Posse dusted everyone down the stretch, I think this run bodes very well for Shackleford headed into next season. He has had an incredibly long, taxing campaign this season. The turn back to the distances that he prefers (8f, 8.5f, 9f, IMO) should benefit him immensely. Some maturation and freshening over the winter will do him well, and I anticipate him being very formidable in races like the Met Mile, Stephen Foster, Whitney and Woodward in 2012.
