Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti is apparently not very fond of the Yankees.. thoughts about his quote?

December 31st, 2010 | admin | How To Win At Sports Betting

Bisciotti’s comment to the Baltimore Sun:

"If I’m a Yankees fan, I’m upset we’re not winning 130 games with the roster that they have and the money that they pay out. I think it’s a disgrace they only beat the average team by 10 games in the standings with three times the money. I’d fire that GM. You don’t need a GM. All you have to do is buy the last Cy Young Award winner every year."

What an idiot. And I read this on bostonglobe.com, and even THEY think he’s an idiot.

  1. The Mick "7" Says:

Sports franchise owners are not necessarily sport "people". Those that are would never make a statement like that. Obviously Bisciotti is strictly a business man and nothing more. On the other hand his remarks are very unprofessional to say the least. I am certain that if Bisciotti was in the same position as the Steinbrenner family he would do the same thing in order to put a winning team on the field.

It’s clear that Bisciotti doesn’t understand the game of baseball. It is the most complex of all sports. It is the only sport that is so difficult that one can fail 70% of the time and still be good enough to be elected into the hall of fame.

To Brian Cashman’s credit, in 1998 the Yankees did, in fact, win 125 games including the playoffs and world series. I’m guessing Bisciotti was totally unaware of that piece of baseball history.

  2. Tom M Says:

He’s exaggerating to make a point, but his point is valid. The Yankee$ should be embarrassed every year if they don’t win, since they outspend every team by a huge margin.

  3. Bert Weidemeier Says:

In reality, he’s right, with the money they spend, the AL East race should be over in July every year. Steinbrenner really isn’t getting the best return on his investment.

  4. Zebronkey Says:

Well, if he thinks he can do better, perhaps he should buy the Yankees and show us all how it’s done. At least when the Yankees win a title, it’s not a fluke.

The Ravens, along with the Bears, are the ultimate one-hit wonders of the NFL.

  5. hubert c Says:

So yankees problem is they didn’t buy Lee Leichmun or Verlander . If you only buy Pitching who will hit they need to buy Mauer and Pujols .

  6. Scooter_the_squirrel_agent Says:

He needs to worry about his own Football team instead of the Yankees. Least the Yanks don’t make a hero out of a murderer like the Ravens do(Ray Lewis.)

  7. Chipmaker Says:

He’s either a nitwit or a liar, because his statements — there’s more in the link — while trying to claim salary caps are useful (and they can be, but he doesn’t go in that direction accurately), actually amount to a denunciation of them.

The Yankees outspend every other MLB team.
The Yankees do NOT win the World Series every year.

There’s no meaningful way to conclude, from those two statements, that MLB needs a salary cap.

But what he said sounds sort-of good if you’re not paying much attention and just want the adrenaline rush of ranting in favor of a cap. The truly delusional think that ticket prices will then come down as well, which is beyond laughable.

  8. Kave Dast Says:

Yeah. Wow. He sounds like a Red Sox fan.

Sound like freedom of speech to me.

  10. ☮ηε ﻉ√٥ﺎ Says:

Pretty accurate statement. I remember when they outbid Boston for Colon just so they could trade him away to Chicago, anyone with a shred of respect for the game would never condone their monopolization.

btw, the Boston Globe is owned by the New York Times, that’s why "even THEY" feel that way about him.

  11. Machinehead 625 NYY WORLD CHAMPS Says:

He’s just still sore about Peyton whooping his rawhide in the playoffs that’s all. Anyway I’m glad you agree that he’s an idiot. Nice to see a Sox fan keeping it real.

  12. Steve C Says:

He’s an astute baseball fan–even though he claims to be a Yankees fan–and a savvy businessman. Why don’t more people realize that the Steinbrenners are ruining the game?

  13. Salty Says:

    Tough guy football meathead…

That doesn’t even make any sense… everyone isn’t a FA after every season ends so you can’t just buy the Cy Young winner every year… Plus the money they spend is a result of them out bidding other GMs and the GM playing agents and other GMs right. Plus unlike football a GM oversees the player development and drafting and scouting which is done on a much larger scale than in football. They get most of their money from merchandising and YES network and other media ventures, although that could change with this mega lux stadium that NY is paying for.

Guy sounds like another Balitmore Ravens product I’ve heard: Rex Ryan, football meathead.

  14. 18 gibbs 20 Says:

He should stick to trying to figure out how to beat the Colts.

  15. NY Yankees~ Champions 2009 Says:

Who cares what the Ravens owner thinks of the Yankees? He doesn’t even own a baseball team!
