He made a gret run in the Metropolitan Mile. Once he lost the Derby, No need to run him in the rest. I think getting a mile and a quarter out of him in the Travers was rather lucky, Considering the Breeders’ Cup Classic Winner came out of the Travers (Concern)
I am tired of the Holly Bull talk. He was a good horse and that is it period. I rank him a few steps below Easy Goer and Sunday Silence. His connections was scared to run him in the real tough races that could have really proved his greatness.
Today, Chris (Go for Gin jockey) manages a academy for students 18 and over to learn how to be a jockey and responseability for racehorses in Lexington KY.
Go For Gin had a very good Triple Crown, winning the Derby, 2nd in the Preakness, and losing a tough stretch battle in the Belmont. Really had a disappointing summer and fall; the TC can really take the starch out of a horse. In his prep for the Derby he ran 2nd in the Wood to Irgun. Remember him? He was a very talented horse, but was injured right after the Wood. He would have been a factor that year. Just one of many that injuries compromised.
Holy Bull was a very good horse who had arguably the best year by a 3 year old in the 90s.However,he was no Sunday Silence or Easy Goer. Bull lost the Derby and then skipped the other 2 Triple Crown races, and also didnt show in the Breeders Cup Classic, although healthy. He won only one race over 9 furlongs, the Travers. And while he showed alot of heart in that race,it was only a five horse field,Tabasco Cat showed nothing, and Concern, while a BC Classic winner, had a penchant for 2nds and 3rds
Holy Bull was a monster. Watch his races in the Met Mile and the Woodward. I guarantee this – had he not gotten hurt in the 95 Donn, Cigar does not win 16 in a row!
The bottom line is Cigar actully won. Potential and talent are nice, but it’s all about crossing the line first and some horses have that something extra to do it. If you get a chance, visit Cigar at the Horsepark. He’s still a ham.
sunday silence and easy goer were legit horses lets not forget alysheba.i saw them on the west coast as a young man and let me tell you they were no HOLY BULL.
I’ll never forget this one… This was the race that Mike Smith wasn’t ready for the start when the gate opened. The Bull never had a chance when Smith didn’t break him up front.

Fantastic! Great footage. Go For Gin ran huge that day. Thanks partymanners. Take care.

Would have been A LOT better if Holy Bull won. Some people still say the horse was drugged that day.

Go for Gin was a true mudder. It was obvious that he was going to run huge this day. I was on the Holy Bull band wagon this day though.

me 2, very disappointing that Holy Bull didnt win, but it would have been nice if he stayed on the triple crown triple

I say the Mud was a factor, He did not do anything in his 2 previous starts in the Mud. The Fountin of Youth and the Belmont Futurity both Mud races.

Dude I agree with you, Holy Bull was the baddest of them. Some bad luck and he’s just Holy Bull, a little more luck it would have been Cigar???
