To complete this How-To you will need: 10 fresh mint leaves 1/2 oz. simple syrup 2 oz. Kentucky bourbon A rocks glass or Derby cup (a traditional sterling silver or pewter cup) Crushed or shaved ice A muddler or long-handled spoon And a swizzle stick Step 1: Add mint Set aside a few mint leaves for garnish, and place the rest in the bottom of the glass. Step 2: Add simple syrup Pour in 1/2 an ounce of simple syrup. Tip: Simple syrup is simply sugar water, made by dissolving 2 parts unrefined sugar into 1 part boiling water. Let cool before using. Step 3: Muddle combination Muddle the combination gently to unleash—but not bruise—the mint’s scent, flavor, and overall essence in the glass. Tip: A muddler is a wooden rod used to mash up ingredients. If you don’t have one, the back of a spoon works just as well. Step 4: Add ice Fill the glass with crushed ice.     Wow, you uneducated fool. That defeats the purpose of the Mint Julep, this is also a classy drink, you don’t ruin something this good. So go back to drinking out of the keg at your dumb frat parties, and leave the sophisticated drinks to us serious folk.

    Black Russians are excellent at breakfast, especially next to a freshly baked croissant, but recently I had a Screwdriver at breakfast and I must admit it wasn’t too bad… But I do like the White Russian, both are very classy drinks which taste fantastic alone or next to food…

    That was the wimpiest muddling I’ve ever seen. No no no. You have to MASH the mint. That’s how the oils (a.k.a. FLAVOR) comes out. That girl just dabbed the muddler on the mint. WTF? Come on, please. Mash that mint!

    potpagan – Umm no you are wrong sir, so is this vid so don’t feel to bad. Actually yes feel like and idiot you should. The proper way is to gently with the muddler rub the mint all around the tin cup. MASHING it bruises the mint and causes the chlorophyll to seep out which is very bitter tasting. Fill glass with hand crushed ice pour bourbon and simple syrup over the ice.

    i use a few more i make it buy putting sugar and about 5 leaves grind them to a pulp ad some tonic to rince the muddler add more leaves and then continue i saw it on good eats and its my perosnal favorite way btw i kinda abbrivated it

    Floflyz i agree that this is not the correct way, but i’ve been working in a couple of different countries and every place has a new way of mixing their drink, for example a danish “White russian” carries NO similarity to the american “White russian”

    @Lassiekid That’s very true actually, last time I made a Mai Tai for an American and he didn’t like it cuz apparently they do it another way in the US…
