Use regular bourbon! Only top shelf Kentucky bourbon, like Woodford or Elijah Craig..
Other than that, he’s pretty good.

Yep. That’s my shit right there, an ice cold Coke.

not authentic preparation at all. do not press!! also, the ice should go in first with simple syrup and bourbon over top.
June 19th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
No, pressing is important. You either do it in the glass like he does or you press them in your hand before you put them in the cup. Ice goes after the mint, because otherwise it floats to the top and you end up drinking the pieces of leaf, which no one likes. And simple syrup is NOT authentic. It’s the lazy-man’s (or busy bartender’s) sugar.

woodford, yes please ^^

crushed ice after the spirit for this drink, otherwise the drink will dilute too fast.
if you want, at home, try couring 75ml’s of room temp whisky over ice that has already been out of the freezer for 30-40 mins. :>

I always thought it was mint tulip. what a tulip I am

this is how a yankee would make a julep. he built it virtually backward, and he bruised the mint. muddling the mint too hard releases the chloriphyl which tastes bitter. i also like simple syrup and i suggest knob creek, as it has a generally sweeter finish.

HealthDay Reporter:
Experts with the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association say that though these studies do show some benefits to moderate drinking, the health risks from alcohol consumption far outweigh the potential rewards.
” They ask you “Muhammad”, concerning wine/alcoholic drinks and gambling. Say: “In them is great sin, and some profit; but the sin is greater than the profit. ”

Now that is a nice way of doing it and in a real pewter mug as well ! I like to add orange peel and Angostura Bitters as well to add a twist to it… But that’s only optionnal !

does 1 measure equal 1 oz??? I just keep hearing different phrases.

The ingredients are right, there is no need to muddle a julep. Age is wisdom, and Chris McMillan does it best. See how he handles one. Wild Turkey rules in this drink, by the way. Garnish prep is correct, as are short straws. This is not just a glass of booze though, It gets good once it sits for about 15 minutes so that the ice melts and dilutes the bourbon. To the guy who mentioned adding orange rind and bitters, that is why we have the Old Fashioned. Don’t mess with that, or the Mint Julep.

Lol

I do find muddling and then resting works wonders, alternatively using chipped ice or even crushed ice at the bottom before the bourbon goes in is a good alternative to leaving it to rest for a while as the ice will melt a lot quicker, best to use some whole cubes too though otherwise it’ll get too watery.
I agree though, bitters and rind…leave it for the old fashioned.
