Is Picking a religion (or a god) much the same as picking a pro football team?
some of us are indoctrinated from birth (like myself) *Go Browns*
some of us are trying to join the "winning team"
some of us see something we’d like to stand for…
and others just want to pick their parent’s rivals to stir up trouble…
and still others think football is stupid, and the rediculous amount of time and money spent on it could be better spent elsewhere…
tawaen, sorry i didn’t mention that…
mystine, what does that have to do with the Q?
((tig)) sorry, i was referring to american football…..

*some of us chose a team because they had a nice color scheme…*

What does God or Truth have to do with religion?
I choose Truth.
It can’t be negated.
You said God and religion are the same thing.
They are not.
Do you even understand your own question? Read it over.

Nope, not the same at all.
Pick the wrong football team and they lose.
pick the wrong religion and you lose.

No wonder I am a Lions fan, there are just as few of us as atheists.

Only if you consider both to be sport.
On the other hand, if God picks YOU…… consider yourself Chosen!

Alot of times if a child grows up in a household that are die hard bears fans they will grow up to be die hard bears.Same with religion. Most people choose whatever their parents chose.

Yes, and there’s is an organization similar to "Gambler’s Anonymous" just for that very purpose: Christ-centered Anonymous Gambling With My Eternity"…It’s just like betting on a football game, but not as much fun and it doesn’t pay off as well, either.

Picking the right football team is much, much more important.
May 31st, 2011 at 9:33 pm
Some of us bet money on the "right" pick….
<.<

Could be.

the main difference is the ‘season’ will not end, and there are no instant replays. You get one shot to get it right.

I hate Sports so your analogy is perfect.
If I thought talking crap about sports, and making claims that they didn’t exist would make them go away I would start the campaign immediately. If I thought saying sports are a distraction for simple minded people, or pointing out all the money sports figures make while people die of starvation.
The corruption.
Coaches sexually molesting young people.
If I thought pointing out that many cities use tax dollars to promote sports, and build stadiums, and the money invested in school sports would make sense to anyone, as if anyone would care then I would.
Oops too late i said it

I’m more of a baseball fan……I’m always the oddball, whether it’s religion or sports (lol).
May 31st, 2011 at 9:33 pm
Yes – it often runs in families, either way. Like thinking, or not thinking – questioning and not questioning. Either of which can lead to not much interest in sport at all, or only a selective interest, or thoughtful atheism. But not enough, in MY reckoning.

oh, you have to stir up the shat, don’t you…
uh, yes, there are similarities…
most of us follow a religion that we were raised with—and I am a Packer fan because I was a Wisconsin boy…
what we believe has almost nothing to do with reality, and everything to do with where and how and by whom we were raised…same for a football team
no matter what faith we choose, or what team we root for, there are going to be people who don’t like us, root against us, and mock us…and being a Browns fan, I’m sure you have experienced this…
as for spending ridiculous amounts of time in frivolity, well, it could be worse. If I am happy with my faith, and you are happy with your Browns, what’s the problem?
