Yup. Had to look at his cheat sheet when he suddenly noticed that somebody had passed his “trio” by 3 lengths.

I live in Batavia NY we have the downs.I have watched people bet their life away on the favorites.Isn’t it funny how the favorites rarely win?

I used to want to be a jockey, but then everyone told me I couldn’t, but seeing a race like that…wow, just gets me going, I was screaming and yelling when Mine That Bird was coming down the stretch, everyone I was with just kind of looked at me and walked away…yeah, I’m a horse racing- wanna be- geek. But I love it!

this was the best derby i ever seen!

  13. dcjack826 Says:

    what awful announcing… seriously.

  14. Janosita Says:

The best horse of the day won, - but maybe MTB just loves mud.

  15. catherineyronwode Says:

I agree with whoever noticed how awful the announcing was. He called the horse “Summer Bird” and then later, wen MTB took the lead, he yeled “Pioneer of the Nile” — while MTB was moving ahead of the pack and then, with MTB a clear winner, he said “is … uh… Mine That Bird” and then called the win “impossible.” It reminded me of Simon Cowell and Susan Boyl! LOL! I agree, also with whoever said that MTB may like sloppy tracks — whatever, though, he was FLYING at the end.

that was an amazing race….i seen the ending on tv and was like got damn that horse is moving…i love horse races but not what they do to em when they loose alot though :*( * * * * *

  17. rashiq501 Says:

Holy crap that horse was flying O.o

  18. randomglen Says:

maybe the best derby race ever with maybe the worst announcing ever, that guy is unintelligible

  19. Barbaro2012 Says:

Seriously? Wow you WANT a horse to die??

  20. lukedull Says:

that’s tom durkin and he’s a legendary announcer. you wouldn’t have known that that was mine that bird either. 50 -1…he probably wasn’t even on the first page of his list of runners.

  21. MyBigRed94 Says:

That was an AWESOME Derby !! Congratulations to Borail & Mine that Bird :) The Preakness will be quite interesting. I can’t wait !! Oh, by the way, Tom Durkin used to call the races for Hialeah years ago, before Brunetti closed the Track in 2001. Please RE-OPEN Hialeah, for Thoroughbred Racing.

  22. ThoroughbredGirl96 Says:

Didnt he win by the largest length since Barbaro?? Didnt barbaro win the derby by 6?

  23. ccraw87 Says:

Mine That Bird proved he was for real in the Preakness a little less traffic and we may be looking at the next Triple Crown winner he ought to romp in the preakness the extra length should be a distinct advantage for this horse and it doesnt matter if calvin borel mike smith or an apache indian chief ride him the horse is good and should be remembered as an extremely talented horse if the preakness was the same length or a little longer than the derby he would have caught rachael alexandra

  24. TXRider Says:

I’ll NEVER forget that race call.

  25. blujean13 Says:

Chantel sutherland must have been so mad that she didnt have the chance to ride mine that bird =[
