My Girlfriend Thinks I have a Gambling problem?
Me and my girlfriend both love each other but she thinks I have a gambling problem, which is weird because the foundation of our relationship began when I saw her on her iphone at a bar and I asked her what the score was in the Idaho St Oregon game.
She thought I was being quirky and she liked my nerdyness, when in actuality I had money on Idaho St +14.5 (they covered that night if anyone is curious)
Anyways the issue of my gambling problem came up when one of my online sportsbooks started posting lines for the women’s ncaa tournament. She currently plays on one of these teams and i joked around about betting on the other team and whether or not she would be willing to point shave
wow bad move on my part, she took the joke too seriously (like all woman do) and thats when she started harping on my gambling, which is weird because its my gambling that paid for all the nice things she has had this year and it has also helped me put one of nieces through college (yes my niece and gf are roughly the same age) and if you are curious it was my baseball bets from last year that helped do this, not college ball (i’m getting hammered in it this year, so a point shave or two in a woman’s basketball game wouldn’t hurt)
Also her family lost a lot of money on stocks and real estate, any smart individual knows that betting on sports is exactly the same thing, if not less corrupt than the world of real estate and stocks
Anyways I like this girl a lot, she’s tall, semi attractive, and most importantly has child bearing hips and at my age, fertility and the prospects of having tall athletic offspring is very important to me
but sports gambling is my life, its all I got, and other than working out and playing video games, its the only thing I am good at

I think if she really loved you she would help you with the point shaving. Maybe if you hinted at her you needed her to do it to for money for a ring she might be a bit more receptive. Sports gambling is an honest way to make money and kudos to you for getting a girl the same age as your niece.

Like any addiction you need to think about the 12 steps and then pick up another habbit in replace of your gambling. It’s an addiction if it effects the ones around you but you may not realize it does. An example of an addiction replacement is something you can do as a ritual such as lottery, stock trading for gamimg. Try to choose somethingthat doesn’t collide with your current life.

From what you say, it does sound like you have a gambling problem. Try to stop betting for a month and see what happens. I have a friend that is addicted to gambling and I know how bad it can be. I have Kansas, Syracuse, West Virginia, and Duke as my final four.

First of all, you really crack me up. I mean, you’re really serious about this stuff…but it’s just the way it’s worded…it’s pretty honest. Look, I couldn’t tell you if you actually had a gambling problem or not. I know very little about gambling, but I actually know a lot about addictions. And like any addiction, there is a "check list" involved. You know, like if you "answer more than three or five out of 10 questions you probably need to check into getting some help" type of deal. They make one for alcohol, so I’m betting they make one for gambling.
Anyway, I think it’s actually LESS about your gambling (I mean, you’re not going broke or losing your house over it, are you? You’ve got a job besides this and you have other hobbies, right?) and actually more that you asked her to point shave. That’s a big deal to a lot of athletes. Yeah, they can get some money from it, but they also put their team in a losing position (without them understanding) and if caught, it can cost an athlete their career. Probably just the fact that the joke put it in her mind that the person she’s with could cost her CAREER with his HOBBY really scared her. Probably best to explain to her that you’d never put her in a position like that, and you should have joked around about it. Tell her you’re seriously considering all she has to say, and you’re looking into what’s best for you. Do the test, if you feel bad about your answers…then give it up for a little while and see how your feel. If you pass and it’s just a hobby, I’d print it out and show her lol. But don’t cheat on the test…you’re only cheating yourself if you do. I wish I hadn’t have cheated on this alcohol test I had to take like that when I was 19. Probably could have helped save me from a lot later on when I really started abusing it. We all can overcome, so remember that.

Well, you’re not going to like what I have to say my brother, but here goes.
Just based on your question, you are obviously obsessed with betting on sports. You mention it in Every Single paragraph. You need to get a Real Job and quit playing Video Games, at ‘Your Age’ I would’ve thought that you would have outgrown video games?! You are not acting like a responsible Man you are acting like an immature Boy that can’t control his teenage gaming urges.
If you care about your relationship with your g/f, then you need to Compromise on the issue. Maybe you need to get a real job and use gambling as a hobby only, not a source of income. For sure you need to put away the video games and spend that time with your girl.
Also, the fact that you call her ’semi attractive’ is nearly an Insult. So you may also want to find within yourself some Respect for her. You should find your girlfriend Beautiful, not Semi Attractive. How would she feel if she read that?
Grow up, get a real job and Earn your girlfriend’s respect before she leaves you.

I think she’ll stay with you even if you don’t change.. I also believe that that you have good odds of having a child that will become a pro-athlete.. You can teach your child the ins and outs of sports betting and he/she will catch on for sure because pro-athletes and gambling go hand in hand.
Just get a few big bets going over the next few days and bring in some crazy cash.. She will love the money, and you for being the victor.

A real job? The insanely funny things is people play video games for a living and make good money doing so, I would honestly kick rocks for a living if it paid more than what a teacher,cop or a "respectable" job paid. It all comes down to money and can you afford to live off what you make, sorry but that’s what it comes down to. ( I actually know people who play games for a living and make lots doing so)
When people start going off about "act your age blah blah blah" Are people not allowed to do what makes them happy anymore? I am still in my 20’s but I dread the day someone tells me not to do something as harmless as playing a game because it’s not in my age range even though games are targeted to all ages, anyways

IF he is good at making money the way he does then so be it, like he pointed out people lose money in the stocks, I see no difference. If he was a bum then it would be another thing, but not only did he MAKE money by gambling, he used it to benefit others not just fulfill his own urges

the fact he flat out said "it was a joke" is pretty much just an over reaction on some people’s parts, which I guess is fair, what it really comes down to is just saying "my joke was insensitive, and I am sorry" even if you think it was a stupid over reaction.
