Uncle Mo – 2011 Kelso H. (G2)
To the cheers of his many fans in Belmont Park’s grandstand, heavily favored Uncle Mo returned to the winner’s circle on Saturday afternoon with a rousing three-length victory over Jackson Bend in the Grade 2, 0000 Kelso Handicap. Grabbing the lead right out of the gate under jockey John Velazquez, the 3-year-old Indian Charlie colt went through a comfortable opening quarter-mile in 23.47 seconds, then sped things up as the half went in 46.03. Still in front on the turn but faced with a serious challenge from Jackson Bend, who tried to draw alongside approaching the quarter-pole, Uncle Mo dug in when asked and pulled clear through the lane to hit the wire in 1:33.82.

@Spursrule1969 He is a legend here in the states. Considered the greatest caller ever-hands down.

Uncle Mo remind me of her sister INDIAN BLESSING. She won the G1 Breeders’Cup Juvenile Fillies by many lenghts over a sloppy track at Monmouth Park. Indian Charlies progeny perform huge on off tracks. I certainly don’t think UNCLE MO will handle a mile and a quarter. I’m not sold on this horse yet. He’s already fired his best shot and he will bounce in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

@CharlyKazula Unfortunately, I agree with you that he probably won’t do well in the Classic. I think he’s
a great horse – at a mile & middle distances. Even if he’s capable of handling 10 furlongs, I fear he
won’t do it off the campaign he’s had since coming back. I wish he were entered in the Dirt Mile, instead.
I’m a hypocrite, tho; I complained for years about Zenyatta being placed mostly in easy spots. She wasn’t coming back after a serious illness. Hope they race Mo next yr!

Great to see this remarkle horse come back and run such an impressive race. I wish him the best against the filly Harve de Grace in the Classic

no shot in the classic nor the dirt mile….cant go 1-1/4miles…and will never get 23-1/5 qtr in the mile gr.3 horse gr.2 tops..sorry my opinion.
