UNCLE MO – 2011 Kelso Handicap
Uncle Mo is headed to the Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I). Last year’s juvenile champion scored his biggest win of 2011 when he repelled a bid from Jackson Bend just beyond the quarter-pole and put his rival away in the 0000 Kelso Handicap (gr. II) Oct. 1 at Belmont Park. The 3-year-old son of Indian Charlie , facing older horses for the first time, won by three lengths and completed the one mile in a lightning-quick 1:33.82 on the muddy track. The victory earned Uncle Mo an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I), but owner Mike Repole and trainer Todd Pletcher will likely point him to the million Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 5 at Churchill Downs. The connections also own 3-year-old standout Stay Thirsty. www.bloodhorse.com

Official time was 1:33.82 for the mile on a muddy track; good run out with no laboring; next stop is the Breeders Cup Classic.

I have heard a muddy track that is sealed is a fast track…..defies logic except if you think about a beach, the wet sand is much easier to run on, that the dry sand.

Uncle Mo is getting back to his best. Beating an older G1 champ like Jackson Bend was really impressive, not to mention clocking under 1:34 in the mud. For people who say this year’s 3 yr old crop is weak, only have to watch Uncle Mo gradually find his stride. If he didn’t get ill before the Derby, he would have been winning consecutive G1′s with no problem.

Uncle Mo remind me of her sister Indian Blessing. She won the G1 Breeders’Cup Juvenile Fillies by many lenghts over a sloppy track at Monmouth Park. Indian Charlies progeny perform huge on off tracks. I certainly don’t think UNCLE MO will handle a mile and a quarter. I’m not sold on this horse yet. He’s already fired his best shot and he will bounce in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
